A Santa Fe-style custom home near Desert Canyon Golf Club needed a full exterior repaint that respected its curved architecture instead of fighting it. We completed the job in May 2026 — here’s how a home with this much curved stucco actually gets painted.

The home and the challenge

Santa Fe-style architecture is built on soft, curved stucco elevations rather than flat, square walls — rounded parapets, gently bulging wall sections, and an entry courtyard instead of a straight front door. That geometry looks great, but it changes how a repaint gets planned: there’s no long straight edge to cut a clean line against, which puts more weight on masking and spray technique than on a typical flat-wall home.

It also changes how coverage gets judged. On a flat wall, a thin patch is easy to spot by sighting down a straight run; on a curved elevation, light falls differently across the surface depending on the angle, so thin spots or uneven mil thickness are easier to miss. Prep

Coating and color

We spec premium exterior coatings from Dunn-Edwards or Sherwin-Williams, chosen for UV performance on stucco that sees long, direct sun exposure. The finish color is a warm gold — a shade that suits Santa Fe-style architecture and reads well against the home’s rounded lines and courtyard shadows, and earth-toned finishes like this one generally hold their depth under sun exposure better than darker, more saturated colors would.

Where a home in this area falls under an HOA-approved exterior palette, we work from that palette and manage the submittal; we confirm whether that applies before finalizing any color. As with any stucco exterior taking heavy sun, we also weigh whether a straight premium acrylic or an elastomeric coating makes more sense on the most exposed curves — elastomeric handles hairline cracking and driven rain well, but it’s a per-wall decision rather than a default, especially anywhere moisture could already be an issue behind the stucco.

Timing

This project was completed in May 2026, ahead of the hottest part of the Arizona summer — a window that gives paint a full, even cure without the surface-temperature constraints that shape our June-through-September scheduling. Late spring works well for exterior work here, landing before the mid-summer stretch where surface heat makes full repaints harder to schedule.

The result

The finished exterior carries the gold finish evenly across every curve, with clean lines around the entry courtyard and rooflines and no visible thin spots where the light hits at an angle.
